Mon. April 1, 2013…..Hope your Easter holiday was great, guided Marty Hurley today on Dunlap Creek at Escatawba Farms and we had an incredible day. I would guess between 30 and 40 fish is what we landed with numerous fish over 20 inches and a couple that were pushing 8lbs or more.
The flow was up at almost 300cfs, not a problem as I have guided this water many many times over the past 13 1/2 yrs. In fact we were the first to guide here…..its like home water to me. I introduced Marty to one of my deep nymphing rigs, we made a few adjustments to the weight and flies and where we were positioned. Game on….
It was incredible. …today wasnt fishing, it was catching. Caught fish today on a variety of subsurface patterns including some of my new stonefly patterns. Also had a hour and a half of pretty great streamer fishing where we " gave em the groceries…" …and it was great fun watching those giant fish run down and kill the fly. ….simply wrist jolting strikes.
We finished up on the upper river and caught a good many more fish before calling it a day. We headed back as the weather got really cold and the wind got up. It was blustery and very chilly.
Great day….no April Fools comment needed…..it was game on. Awesome.
Have a great evening….!
