Nice Day on the Smitty….
Sat. June 9, 2012…..Hope your weekend is going well. Had a good 1/2 day on the Smith River guiding and doing an on the water lesson with Bob Owen of Burlington, NC, and I taught Bob some casting and line management and after instruction we headed to the water to try out those skills.
Bob did well, and will be part of a very elite group…those who say they caught a Smith River wild brown that was rising on a dry fly in the first 10 minutes of having picked up a fly rod for the very first time. Very few folks can boast that, I sure can’t .
We fished on with Bob landing 5 total fish, 4 browns and 1 rainbow. That’s a great day for most people on the Smith let alone someone who is just starting out.
I may have caused another person to go equipment shopping…..sorry Bob, but its worth it!
We had a ton of sulphurs still coming off and some craneflies. Most of our fish were on #18 CDC sulphurs
Have a great weekend…!
