Happy Mothers Day…..
Sun. May 13, 2012…Happy Mothers Day to all moms…..I have been blessed by God to have the best one on planet Earth. I am home today after a week and a half fishing the sulphur and blue winged olive hatch in East Tennessee. Will be spending quality time with my "moms" today.
Guided Drs Sam and Bose Ravenel yesterday and we had a little tougher fishing. We caught 25 or so, including some large fish. We had to nymph fish much of the time with midge patterns to be successful. Hatches were light, only a few rising fish and we nailed some during a light flurry before the water came up. We went to one last spot way downstream late looking for a hatch. No bugs but we hooked two monster bows nymphing and one broke off while another came loose. Then one heck of a downpour ran us off the river and ended our day.
Watch Shaun Redgate of Forest , VA, a client on the group trip, land a 21.5" wild SoHo brown on one of my #22 CDC blue wing patterns….catching a wild brown over 20 inches on a size 22 dry fly is something that puts you in an elite group. Many anglers never get to experience that. Will be sending a video clip of our SoHo 2012 group trip plus a photo album of some of the most gorgeous browns and rainbows. Our 2013 bookings are going fast for May SoHo hatches so booking trips early is a good idea if you want to experience dry fly action as good as anywhere in America when its hot.
All waters in East TN, NW NC, and SW Va were in prime shape but clouds are building and skies darkening. We have one heck of a rain system at our backdoor that I guess will squelch fishing for a few days. Sorry….! But this ones a doozy.
Have a great Sunday and a good upcoming week.
