Incredibly Heavy Rains, Incredible Day of Dry Fly Fishing….
Wed. May 9,2012……Guided Shaun Redgate, Sonny Lackey, Jeff Wayman, and Fred Gebarowski and today we had all day rain and much of it downpours. Stalked some cruisers early and then got into a sulphur hatch and caught a bunch of fish–probably 30 or so, up to 16" and most of them on dry flies. We took a lunch break and then headed to a spot downriver where I felt like we would get a hatch.
It was incredible. We forgot about how truly nasty the weather was. Blue winged olives size 20 poured off and we got into some great browns. The two largest fish, one 18.5 " brown landed by Sonny Lackey and a 20.5" brown landed by Shaun Redgate, both took dries and Shaun’s fish took one of my #20 CDC bwo emergers. Shaun officially is part of an exclusive club…a Dry Fly 20/20. That is a 20" or larger fish on a fly #20 or smaller.
We are waiting on the TVA to turn off and we are going to fish the last hour before dark, then call it a day. We will be heading to dinner afterward.
Hope your day was grand and have a great evening…!
