Incredible Day of Fishing….
Mon. Apr.16, 2012…..Great day on the water, guided Dr. Pat Burney and we had a phenomenal trip. If we didn’t top 50 fish I would be really surprised.
Our day started about 745am, we got an early start to beat the heat and it paid off. We had a mixed hatch of craneflies, small caddis, and sulphurs, all sz18. The water temp was prime , 57.5F to be exact and the bugs came off and the fish rose to the bugs til about noon or 1230pm.
From start to lunch we netted over 40 fish, and at least half of them on dry flies. We killed them on LaFontaine sparkle pupae in tan also, and the other hot nymph was a B2, or beaded blueberry nymph. After lunch we caught about 10 more fish , all nymphing, and we quit around 345pm to get Dr Pat back in time to make his evening rounds at the hospital. When we left, bluebird sunny skies had caused water temp to climb to 68F, and when that is the case you can usually forget any hatches and rising fish.
Water levels are falling quickly due to the warm temps and dry weather. We really need some rain, and it looks like some is on the way.
Guiding Mac Cheek tomorrow, will have another fishing report then. Have a great evening….
