Challenging Day …..
Thurs…..Sept.22, 2011…..Had a more challenging day today, much more than past weeks. Guided Larry Tomar, a good fisherman, and we opted for a later start and then we just fished late. It was tough, few risers to start….we hit a couple of spots and had a few fish rise to the fly. We then started to see some blue winged olives, followed by some sulphurs. Larry put about 20 fish in the net, plus we broke off a few and had a few come unbuttoned while playing them. A mix of browns and rainbows, Larry’s total was impressive given no heavy hatch and the sporadic rising we witnessed. We had pretty significant cloud cover which kept the hatch light….and by 600pm it was a done deal. We hit one last spot and called it a day, but ended with hooking up on a nice brown.
The fish were tough today, very selective, very fussy about the drift and fly pattern. We did best with a CDC dun pattern size 22 in bwo color scheme. Looking forward to another day of dry fly fishing tomorrow, will be guiding Dick Simpson and Buzz Garrett, Burlington, NC. Should be great fun…
Have a great evening , more to come tomorrow…
