Where Fly Fishing is a Professional Passion…..

Wow, What a Soaker…..

Sat…..Apr. 16,2011….The weather folks were not kidding.  It is raining cats and dogs is the report I have gotten from friend and customer Don Swaim in Boone,NC.  The report area wide is that 3.5″ to 6.50″ of rain has fallen and it is a mess with tons of runoff.  No fishing today and this will make for almost no fishing in the high country tomorrow.  A muddy, chocolate mess is what we we shall have for the next few days.  Looks like today will be a complete day of R&R……  The amount of flooding in the mountains is nothing short of incredible….a ton of closed roads due to flood waters….. The road was overrun by six feet of water and it was still rising.  Pretty ugly, the Watauga in Boone was much the same as it rose about 20 feet and there was major flooding in Vilas, NC, the park, and the area around Mast General Store/Mast General Store Annex…..this flood event took a lot of the weather folks by suprise……..it was comparable to the flooding of the Hurricanes Ivan and Frances in 2001 that did such incredible damage.  It will be interesting to see the extent of the damage once its over.   Have friends with mountain properties in harms way, some that stand a chance of being submerged/swamped by flood waters….and a lot of other folks there too….we will keep all of them in mind and in our prayers……Enjoy your Saturday.

Tight Lines,

Jeff
